ADS, 1846 August 18 : Rio Arriba, New Mexico, to officials in La Canada, San Juan, Santa Clara, Abiquiu, Ojo Caliente, Mora, etc.

This circular has an earlier letter on verso from Facundo Melgares (Governor of New Mexico) to the alcalde at La Canada, dated December 9, 1821, at Santa Fe, New Mexico. In letter dated August 18, 1846 by Gallegos, the transition of New Mexico from Mexican to U.S. rule is recorded. In the earlier letter, transition of New Mexico from Spanish to Mexican rule is recorded. The document signed by Gallegos was written on the very day Kearny with U.S. troops marched into Santa Fe and New Mexico passed from Mexican to U.S. rule.
